Táto medzinárodná norma stanovuje metódu na určovanie hladiny akustického výkonu alebo hladiny akustickej energie zdroja hluku porovnaním s nameranými hladinami akustického tlaku vyžarovanými týmto zdrojom (strojom alebo zariadením) namontovaným v in situ v dozvukovom prostredí s hladinami z kalibrovaného referenčného zdroja zvuku.Hladina akustického výkonu (alebo v prípade hlukových zhlukov alebo prechodovej emisie hluku hladiny akustickej energie) vyžarovaná zdrojom hluku, vo frekvenčných pásmach so šírkou jednej oktávy, sa vypočíta použitím týchto meraní.
