This report compares thermal stresses (measured on the running surface of wagon wheels) during in-line tests using K and LL type brake blocks on slopes on the Saint Gothard and Tauern lines, with results obtained from bench tests. Various braking modes taken from UIC Leaflet 541-1 were applied for the bench tests, in addition to braking modes based on those used on slopes the during in-line tests (saw-tooth braking, constant pressing force and constant power). Other tests were carried out to simulate blocked brakes, which were compared with results from in-line tests on a test loop line and validated. All forces being equal, the temperatures obtained both on the test bench and in-line with the same material, were very close. "+ "
