The present Report DT 437 describes the procedure used to determine braking performance (in braked weight percentages) for vehicles with a permitted maximum speed of below 100 km/h. This procedure is a new addition to the 5th edition of UIC Leaflet 544-1. It is largely the same as the existing procedure, using which vehicles with a permitted maximum speed of 100-200 km/h were assessed. In addition to the procedure itself, the report documents the underlying assumptions, specifications and mathematical and physical derivation, and makes a number of advisory remarks concerning the procedures application.
