1. Scope |
This gas chromatographic method is for determining individual and total trace hydrocarbon impurities in olefin-free, high-purity benzene and high-purity cyclohexane. C8 and lower boiling paraffins, naphthenes, benzene and toluene are determined. The method is quantitative to 5 mass-ppm for individual impurities in benzene or cyclohexane. Benzene purity can also be determined by ASTM D 4492 or D 2360 where the lower detection limit is 100 and 5 mass-ppm, respectively, per component. Both methods determine the non-aromatics as a total whereas this method also provides a distribution. |
