Norma platí pro stanovení obsahu vyluhovatelného chromu z usní obsahujících chrom. Množství se vztahuje na hmotnost zkoušeného vzorku usně, vyjadřuje se µg.g-1. Toto stanovení umožňuje posuzovat usně z hlediska zdravotní neškodnosti. Podstatou zkoušky je spektrofotometrické stanovení obsahu chromu, vyluhovatelného vodou za statických podmínek ze zkoušeného vzorku usně. Indikace je založena na citlivé reakci chromanů s difenylkarbazidem po předcházející mineralizaci rušivých součástí výluhu a oxidaci trojmocného chromu na šestimocný. V normě je podrobně popsaný postup zkoušky. Není uvedeno nic o hodnocení výsledků. ČSN 79 3873 byla schválena 12.11.1980 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.10.1981. Nahradila návrh ČSN 79 3873 z 15.3.1976
