Tato norma specifikuje metodu stanovení snadno uvolnitelných sulfidů ve vodě a odpadních vodách v hmotnostních koncentracích od 0,04 mg/l do 1,5 mg/l. Vyšší hmotnostní koncentrace lze stanovit při použití menšího zkoušeného objemu vzorku vody. Rozpuštěné sulfidy jsou stanoveny zcela. Nerozpuštěné sulfidy mohou být v závislosti na rozpustnosti a stáří sraženiny stanoveny buď úplně nebo jen částečně. Příkladem mohou být sulfidy zinku, železa a manganu. Sulfidy v polysulfidech jsou stanoveny jen částečně. Některé sulfidy nemohou být stanoveny, např. sulfid rtuťnatý.
