Vecny zaber pokynu je vymezen problematikou vicejazycnosti tak, jak se projevuje pri vypracovani "konvencniho tezaru", t. j. tezauru obsahujiciho lexikalni jednotky prevzate z vice nezli jednoho prirozeneho jazyka, v nemz tyto jednotky pak tvori slovnik rizeneho selekcniho jazyka. V ramci cele teto normy se rozlisuji deskriptory a nedeskriptory. Pokyny nejsou tedy pouzitelne ani pro selekcni jazyky, v nichz se pojmy vyjadruji vyhradne pomoci symbolu, ani pro systemy, ktere jsou zalozeny na automaticke analyze a vyhledavani uplnych textu.
