Norma stanoví základní (české) názvy a definuje pojmy, vyskytující se v oboru obráběcích strojů. Má celkem 17 částí. Prvé dvě obsahují rozdělení a definice základních částí, dalších 14 částí (česky) definuje vcelku asi 100 pojmů různých druhů obráběcích strojů. K řadě pojmů jsou připojeny i náčrtky. Pro informaci jsou uvedeny i názvy slovenské, ruské, anglické, německé a francouzské. ČSN 20 0200 byla schválena 18.7.1975 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.7.1977. Nahradila ČSN 20 0200 z 11.10.1961
